If you want to save space in your server room and create 25 Gigabit networks, this is a smart and easy solution. By adding a real CCR2004 to your server, you can save space in your server room. This unique product combines the powerful features of a fully-fledged router with a simple 2-port 25 Gigabit PCIe Ethernet adapter.

By default, the PCIe interface appears as four virtual Ethernet interfaces. Two of these interfaces are in pass-through mode for 25G SFP28 cages. The remaining two virtual Ethernet-PCIe interfaces are connected with Gigabit Ethernet ports for management access. Since we run full RouterOS on this device, the user can freely configure all interfaces and settings.

A new Pass-Through mode was implemented to make this CCR device work as a NIC. Essentially, it is a FastForward FastPath mode that can also pass hardware link status. This NIC can reach cable speed (100 Gb/s) with Jumbo frames. Thus, this CCR network card will not cause performance issues in most server setups.

4GB RAM, 128MB NAND storage, and a powerful four-core ARMv8 64-bit CPU allow this device to perform many tasks independently of a router, such as firewall management, home media and file server access control, and even some traffic control in data centers.

This form factor has some limitations to consider. The CCR NIC card may take more time to boot compared to ASIC-based setups. If the main system boots before the CCR card, the available devices may not be visible. You need to add a PCIe device boot delay in the BIOS after power is turned on. Alternatively, you need to reboot the PCIe devices from the main system.
